Model Watch

Jazzma Kendrick  

I just love a new face, a new IT Girl, a new brown beauty to stay connected with and while surfing the rumor-mill this week I came across a headline that read: "Supermodel Naomi's Ex moves on to the next BLACK woman". It peeked my pop culture interest and once I clicked the link open I became way less interested in what could be yet another 'old white billionaire pimps out another  young black beauty', after seeing the statuesque chocolate beauty with killer abs

I immediately hit the Google-mill to see about Ms. Jazzma Kendrick. A 5'11", 23 year old Glamazon hailing from Miami, Florida. She has an amazing mixture of a rounded (brown girl) curves mixed with runway length  to complete any fashion job. Ms. Kendrick seems to be very experienced in fashion modeling (although I'm not sure if she even has representation yet). And, as a new comer, swimsuit seems to be her claim to fame booking 3 shows for up and coming designers last season (that's pretty damn good!)

She totally reminds me of someone. A important piece of my life. My darling sister-cousin soon to be next See!

However, with a new come-up wallet to stay connected to and the static growing into more of a buzz this summer, I have a feeling Jazzma will be next seasons muse hitting all of the runways between New York, Milan and Paris.

She appears to be super sweet (like all the young brown model girls I just love) and I hear she is very down to earth. I hope I get to work, meet or just hang with her pretty soon....before she blows! (up). Either way ill be staying connected and blogging from the side. So here's one model worth watching remember Closet Jane told ya first! (or maybe second or something....I did have to get the pix from somewhere ;)

Move Your Body, May 2013

Lets Move!
nuff said.....

Here we go again! This month  at Girls Prep middle school, we had the opportunity to "do the Duggie" like the first lady and "snap for the kids" like Beyonce. Our awesome Phys Ed. Teacher, Kristine, sought out the opportunity for all of our girls to get up and move in a very fun way: working out while singing along to King Bey. Now, who isnt gonna love that?!

Not only did the ENTIRE school learn the routine within 48 hrs. (as if they hadn't already, since last summer) but we literally sprouted UP in the middle of the school day to just move! Like Michelle advocates and Beyonce demonstrates.

The girls had an awesome time, dancing, working out and  forgetting their left from right! The staff also had fun just taking a much needed brain break. It was also nice to click the Instagram hashtag #MoveYourBody and see this unfolding simultaneously in schools across the country.

SUNDAY'S BEST: Celebrity Spotting

Teacher Appreciation Week.

As Teacher Appreciate Week came to a close, NYC felt the rays of sunshine after hours of drab weather only days before.
Despite the grey side of spring lingering around the city, the Girls Prep community continued to do what we do best: spreading love with one random act of kindness and appreciation at a time (C'mon it's an all girls school) Anagram artwork, awards, love notes, Cuban lunch treats even a baby shower!

On Friday myself and fellow Educators--my sisters of the "big" Operations team--treated the lovely students of the "baby" Operations team to a Pinkberry outting during 9th period.

As an awesome reward for displaying responsibility and being model students on campus we bonded with our girls during this sunny frozen yogurt stroll. Upon returning to the school for dismissal we interrupted the lunch of Supermodel, super mom and fellow super girl, Jourdan Dunn! Continuing their brigade of kindness and appreciation my girls swooped right in and gave me the gift I teach them everyday: confidence, support and purpose to talk to Jourdan which landed the group an awesome photo opt.

The day and week could not have ended any better. I am very grateful to have met Jourdan, a model whom I admire and who has graced the pages of my blog twice before, here! and here!. She was as humble and as sweet as I ever imagined. But getting to spend more time with the students of Girls Prep was the ultimate reward, as the school year winds down this week was just the beginning of the many reminders, set to unfold, of the true importance of being an Educator.

Gatsby the Great

The 20's will Always Roar
Gatsby the Great!

If you're anything like me, then you're inner flapper will prepare to  attach her sparkly flask to her inner right thigh tonight as she shuffles her way into a local theater. 

Possibly every generation since--- has had the pleasure of escaping and being Daisy for a day.....well maybe 45 min until the bell rang to let you out of English class (shout out to Ms. King! circa 97') and reading the pages of F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel, The Great Gatsby. 

This will be the 2nd major motion picture based on Fitzgerald's book and I'm exceptionally excited about this one because its totally in color which means: IT SPARKLES!  I get to escape and be Daisy once again in the world of costume, jazz and liberation--a true flapper at heart.

And make sure you check out my past style file post, "Style Era: The Roaring Twenties"  highlighting the  all it's stylish glory, here. Throw a costume party this weekend or something. Just for the hell of it because the 20's will always roar.
